Daydreaming and I’m thinking of you
(Aretha Franklin theme song)
So I had this CRAZY dream that my boyfriend and I had a date up at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. THE PLACE WAS BEAUTIFUL!!! It was weird though because when I looked down at my hands I had a gorgeous ring on my ring finger, so apparently we were engaged in this dream too. The day was magical, just walking around taking gorgeous photos of this historic majesty soaked in gorgeous ancient history. We were constantly laughing at our dumb failed modeling poses, chasing fat little cats wondering around & trying hard not to scuff our sneakers on the rocky marble..what a beautiful day..
…wait thats not a dream, that actually happened?! Wow! Like I honestly have to pinch myself every now and then to make sure I’m not dreaming. Everyday I have this scare in my heart that I’m going to have to up and leave Kyle and go back to my “real life” work responsibilities and back to the long distance torture. It hasn’t fully sunk in that I don’t have to fear leaving him anymore.
5 months ago if you would have told me that I’d be up at the Acropolis with my “fiancé” on a casual Friday afternoon date, I would have laughed and thought it was a complete joke or just a dream..but nope, it’s happening! STILL COUNTING MY BLESSINGS.
ON A SERIOUS NOTE…food for thought
I do have to say one thing though, if I could provide any advice to players, player’s families or player’s girlfriends/wives while living this lifestyle…LIVE YOUR FREAKING LIFE!!! Take full advantage of being able to travel all around the world due to basketball (or any sport). Basketball won’t last forever, it’s a short career so soak up the glory days while you can. There are so many players and player’s girlfriends/wives that are so negative if they have to be overseas in an unknown environment. They just sit at home and do nothing to explore the culture that they’re in. I mean, everyone is different and not everyone likes to venture out but you should definetly realize that you’re living out an amazing experience that people only dream of..and getting PAID while doing it!
I just have to tell a quick story about Patrick Beverly, a savage defender in the NBA, who we were able to meet during our time in Houston. Kyle was Pat’s “rookie” while he was in Houston. This meant he was responsible for certain rookie duties, like carrying bags or making sure he was up for shoot around. Even though these seemed childish at times, every rookie in the NBA has to go through it, not just Kyle. Even though you have to “pay your dues”, your “vets” always make sure you are taken care of. Pat always made sure Kyle was good, teaching him valuable lessons along the way, and even gave him his per diem on the road trips for doing these duties! JEALOUS
After Kyle left the Clippers, Pat told Kyle to keep him in the loop as to what potential teams that might want him. Once Olympiacos reached out with an official offer, Kyle texted Pat to see what his thoughts on the team were, not even knowing that he had once played for the team. His response; “TAKE IT”, and then “enjoy every second over there.” This was a simple response but will always stick in our minds. He told Kyle to bust his ass, shoot the f***** ball, and focus on getting better during your time there. Whether its one year, or five, get better and enjoy it. For those of you who don’t know, Pat spent four seasons overseas before he was a household name in the NBA and today, he is one of the best on ball defenders, and is what I like to call a savage on the court. Even though your life might be full with basketball, Pat went on to tell him to enjoy the overall experience more than he was able to do. Stay optimistic, enjoy the moment, and every thing will work itself out. Thanks for the advice PB!
Think about it, people spend thousands of dollars to travel all around the world for leisure and to experience culture…so take advantage of the time and LIVE YOUR FREAKING LIFE! Don’t look back 15 years from now wishing you would have explored more when you had the opportunity right at your fingertips.
Anyways, that’s just my opinion. This is not meant to offend anyone I’m just hoping to spark a little fire of inspiration to anyone who feels discouraged or lonely about being away from home.
Ladies, if you are overseas supporting your man and want to get away for a mini vacation somewhere in Europe, send me a message or DM and lets plan it! I’m always down for a mini vaca.
